How to Disable Forced Auto Update on Samsung phone

Software updates on Samsung devices are essential for maintaining the performance, security, and functionality of your device. However, there might be situations where you want to temporarily disable or postpone these updates. Here's how to do it:

Please note that this guide is for educational purposes, and it's generally recommended to keep your device up-to-date for optimal performance and security.

Option 1: Disabling Automatic Updates

  • Open the "Settings" app on your Samsung device. You can usually find it in the app drawer or by swiping down from the top of the screen and tapping the gear-shaped icon.
  • Scroll down and tap on "Software update." On some devices, this might be labeled as "Software update" or "Software update settings."
  • Tap on "Auto download over Wi-Fi" or a similar option. This will vary slightly depending on your device and software version.
  • Toggle off the switch next to "Auto download over Wi-Fi" or a similar option. This will prevent the device from automatically downloading updates when connected to a Wi-Fi network. If you want to disable updates over mobile data, you can toggle off the "Auto download over mobile data" option as well.

Option 2: Delaying Updates

If you'd like to delay updates rather than completely disabling them, follow these steps:

  • Open the "Settings" app on your Samsung device.
  • Scroll down and tap on "Software update."
  • Tap on "Download and install."
  • Toggle off the switch next to "Download updates automatically."
  • This option will prevent the device from automatically downloading updates, but you'll still receive notifications when updates are available. You can manually initiate the update when you're ready.

Option 3: Restricting Background Data for Software Updates

Another way to limit software updates is to restrict background data usage for the "Software update" app. Here's how:

  • Open the "Settings" app on your Samsung device.
  • Scroll down and tap on "Apps" or "Applications."
  • Find and tap on "Software update" in the list of apps.
  • Tap on "Mobile data" or "Data usage."
  • Toggle off the switch next to "Background data."

This will prevent the "Software update" app from using mobile data in the background, which can help delay or limit updates.

Remember that it's generally recommended to keep your device's software up-to-date to ensure security and performance improvements. Disabling updates for an extended period may leave your device vulnerable to security risks. Therefore, use these options judiciously and consider re-enabling updates when it's convenient and safe to do so.
